Main Rest camps

The rest camps that we predominantly use in the Kruger National Park are all in the Central region of the Kruger Park.

These rest camps can be divided into three different categories

* Main rest camps
* Bushveld camps
* Tented Camp

These camps have a general dealer shop, which also acts as curio shop, swimming pool, restaurant and a viewing or focal point, such as a waterhole or river. The entire camp is fenced offering guests a great opportunity to walk about, stretch your legs and appreciate the small things… insects and reptiles abound. The trees in these camps are filled with the song of birds and the Kruger Park is home to no less than 507 different bird species. The Main rest camps consists of the Orpen Gate Rest Camp, Satara Rest Camp, Olifants Rest Camp and the Letaba Rest Camps.

 

Orpen Gate Rest Camp

Orpen is situated in the far west of the Park, this small rest camp overlooks a waterhole. This waterhole is the same waterhole as the now famous Orpen web cam.

Satara Rest Camp

Satara rest camp is one of the park busiest rest camps, situated almost in the centre of the park and along the popular north / south main road. Satara is situated in an excellent game viewing area, with the bush relatively open and the animals plentiful and diverse. The turf flats in the Satara area offer the best grazing in Kruger park. The area is known for spectacular sunsets. Close to Satara we find 3 large earthen dams and 6 water points – all this adds up to of the best wildlife area in the Kruger park. The camp itself has a rustic charm, with the bulk of the accommodation set out in a series of circles. The camp offers a wide variety of accommodation types.

Olifants Rest Camp

Arguably the rest camp that offers the best views in Kruger Park. Situated high on a hill with spectacular panoramic views of the Olifants River. The camp has a purpose build observation area where one could literally spend hours scanning the River area. The name Olifants is the Afrikaans name for Elephants … so your chances of seeing elephants in this area is exceptionally good.

Letaba Rest Camp

Of all the main rest camps in Kruger, Letaba rest camp can be described as a “Green Oasis”. Situated high above a long sweeping bend of the Letaba River also offering some awesome views.

Bushveld Camps

These camps small intimate camps have no shop or restaurant facilities, except a viewing or focal point.The accommodation is in cottages…. Your guide and assistant will prepare all your meals for you. While walking around the camp you can view out from behind the safety of the camps perimeter fence at any wildlife in relative close proximity to the camp.

Talamati Bushveld Camp

Talamati is situated along a seasonal river course,with excellent open plains area .. affording great viewing.The camp has a drinking hole in front of it and this waterhole is frequented from Elephants,lions,hyena to filed mice! Of all the waterholes in Kruger this one offers of the very best viewing.

Shimuwini Bushveld Camp

Shimuwini is one of the more remote bushveld camps in the Kruger park, the camp overlooks the Letaba River . This area is Elephant country
